Over the past six months, life’s changed a fair bit for Mark and me: we’ve morphed from wandering writers who lived out of our kitbags, to writers who lived tentatively in a quirky, recycled “bungalow”, to writers who now live, very happily surrounded by books, in a treehouse on the beautifully quiet west coast of Bali.
Okay, it’s not exactly a treehouse in the traditional sense of the word, but as I write, all that I can see from my desk is a vast expanse of green. Our home is enveloped by an old mango tree, and set among plantations of palms, banana trees, fruit trees, flame trees, frangipanis… we can’t see the sea from our home, but I can hear the waves. And so many birds. And the clanking of wooden cow bells. It’s truly beautiful here.
But as much as we love to be here, we also love (and need) to travel. Lately we’ve been leaving every month or so for about two weeks at a time, but come late August we’ll be leaving Bali and our beloved treehouse for two months – and so it will be available for rent during September and October. The rent is $1000 a month or $600 for 2 weeks. The house is open downstairs, and upstairs there is a double bed and office space, with packed bookshelves. The “office” has a reading bed that can also be a third (single) bed. Our bathroom is open-air (and we have a hot-water shower). Because of the design (full-length glass doors upstairs), our home is not suitable for those travelling with toddlers or young children.
